Clicking noise car losses power then regains it?

I have an 1998 EL Ford Falcon. It has an intermittent fault. The car normally starts up and drives fine. Occasionally the car lose power. This has happened a few times but is starting to happen more and more.When the engine cuts out or loses power there is a clicking noise in the engine area and it seems to regain power by itself,like a computer rebooting itself.I taken it to Ford and they told me they would have to put it on the machine and wait till it happens again?At this stage it seems to happen once a week,Anybody out there that can help?
