What happens to the chromosomes after telophase??

DNA is double stranded. You must be talking about sister chromatids. Anyways, they always duplicate before mitosis during Interphase (its called phase S) and then when the cells divide they get a single chromosome for each. It will remain single until the next interphase phase S occurs.
